Experiment 1 Final sketchup model

The video below is used to show the relation between the external and internal composition of the sketch-up model.

The video below is used to show how Ai Wei Wei may choose to walk through the gallery and upstairs to his living space.

The video below is used to show how Stelarc may choose to walk through the gallery and downstairs to his living space.

The image below is an exterior shot showing the structure in its entirety

Detailed Features

The images below show the the detailing of the external staircase, this detailing includes bolts, mounts, cables and textures

The image below shows some detail of Stelarc's roof with particular emphasis on some of the intruding eye structures.

36 Custom Material Textures

This task involved:
- A group task to come up with 36 words that describe the possible cross-sections of various materials.
- Draw material textures based on the words developed in the previous task, and group them according to Above Ground, Ground or Underground.
- Implement the custom textures into our google sketch up models.

Below are the material textures for the above ground space

The image above is a view used to show some of the custom textures used in the gallery space. I have used the warped texture for the sides of this space as it gives a 2D surface more depth,I have also used the brittle texture for every second step in the staircase to give the staircase a varied linear feel.

Below are the material textures for the ground space

The image above is a view used to show some of the custom textures in the above living space. I have used the bubble texture as it gives a sense of airlessness to it whilst the scratched surface of the platform is used to create a contrast of outside and inside walking spaces.

Below are the material textures for the underground space

The image above is a view used to show some of the custom textures in the below living space the curved roof has a cubic texture used to create an interesting interface between the roof with square textures and the circular intruding eye-like structures.
The purple texture is the layered texture this has been implemented to show a development from the 2D cubic texture to its 3D equivalence.

The Stairs

This task involved:
- Designing 4 differing staircase designs (showing 2 sections of each, 2 of which had to be based on sketches from the 18 sectional sketches task), and
- Modelling 2 of the 4 stairs using google sketch up.

Below are 3 stair designs in which i decided not to include in my sketch up model.

The staircase above is nice, clean and simple it did not mesh well with the structures design.

The staircase above is an interesting design and could have been used especially if the space was restricted. however this staircase was not used as it lacks the uniqueness which is a key attribute of both artists and a key attribute of the structure.

The staircase above were based on a custom sketch relating to the word rotating, in this case I tried to produce a tornado like appearance however i don't believe this design portrayed it effectively.

Below are the 2 Staircase designs which have been included in my sketch up model.

The stairs above were based on a custom sketch relating to the word elegant. As an individual travels down stairs the curve tightens which is designed to focus the persons field of vision to whats right in front of them. As an individual travels upstairs the curve loosens as a new space opens up.
This is the sketch up model of the staircase shown above. This staircase was chosen due to it's tightened curve leading upstairs to the ground level gallery which will achieve a focus of attention towards the art situated in front of the individual.

The stairs above were based on a custom sketch relating to the word dependent. I found this staircase design particularly interesting as the supporting cables have 2 purposes one of which is to support the stairs and the other is to act as the balustrades.

This is a sketch up model of the staircase shown above. This staircase was chosen due to its extruding design which provides a unique link to the external environment, it allows an individual to  either glare back at the structure and gain a better perspective of its entirety or glance in all other directions and end enjoy a surreal experience.
